Q.
Wall Street Journal Pepper and Salt Cartoons

Can Baker Library Special Collections provide me with a copy of a “Pepper…and Salt” cartoon?

Can Baker Library Special Collections confirm when a “Pepper…and Salt” cartoon was published?

A.

The Wall Street Journal Cartoon Collection at Baker Library Special Collections consists of a few hundred “Pepper…and Salt” cartoons that represent the 1950s through the 1990s and the early years of the 21st century. A selection of cartoons from the collection is featured on The Funny Side of the Street: Introducing the Wall Street Journal Cartoon Collection exhibition website.

Baker does not hold the copyright on these cartoons and cannot grant or deny permission to use them. Copyright is held by Cartoon Features Syndicate. Reprint rights to this material for commercial use must be licensed by the Syndicate. Please send requests, including a copy of each cartoon, to:

Baker Special Collections Reference Staff can search the collection inventory for a specific cartoon of interest. We also encourage researchers to review the more than 20 published collections of "Pepper...and Salt" cartoons published since 1953. A select list of these publications is available on the Wall Street Journal Cartoon Collection exhibition site.
